We can clean all types of fascia and soffit boards (including guttering, external drainpipes along with any UPVC cladding) on domestic or commercial properties.

To protect your investment any UPVC products need to be kept clean, replacing them is costly, inconvenient and time consuming.

We recommend having them cleaned every six months, but as a bare minimum every one to two years to keep them maintained. The benefits of which are listed below:

Did you know?

The roof is one of the most neglected parts of any home or commercial building.

Mainly because the idea of climbing up there on a ladder to clean or undertake repairs can be difficult for most of us, and potentially expensive to put up scaffolding, not to mention some of us hate heights or don’t want to take the risk, and these aren’t the only reasons.

Q. How often do any of us look up?

A. Not often enough.

Powells suggest checking everything from the roofline upwards every few months to make sure there are no problems, for example blocked, damaged, loose or missing – guttering, fixtures, fittings, bricks, tiles and mortar, or a build-up of moss, dirt and other particulates which can all lead to bigger problems.

Q. Can you remember what your facia and soffits looked like when they were new?

  • How much of a difference they made to the outside of your property.
  • How it looked like your home/premises had received a face lift.
  • How much it improved the curb appeal.

Regrettably, all exterior surfaces are exposed to the elements, and it doesn’t take long for things to build up, for example:

  • Dirt
  • Algae
  • Moss
  • Pollen
  • Particulates
  • Grime
  • Germs
  • Salts
  • Mould
  • Mildew
  • Oils
  • Grease
  • Smoke
  • Rust
  • Dust
  • Nitrogen dioxide
  • Ozone
  • Sulphur dioxide
  • Pollution

These build ups are mostly usually caused by various things like

  • Wind
  • Rain
  • Storms
  • Pollution
  • Sand
  • Acid rain
  • Traffic
  • Mowing the lawn
  • Building works

As these build up your once pristine exterior starts looking tired, drab, and dirty, your curb appeal dropping like a rock.

If left uncleaned for a long-time (or cleaned the wrong way) the surfaces can become damaged and permanently marked with:

  • Scratches
  • Scrapes
  • Stains
  • Pock marks

As with all exterior surfaces, it doesn’t take long before damaged occurs and permanently marks them

Powells has the experience and equipment to immediately brighten up the appearance of your fascia’s and soffits, making a tremendous difference to your premises.

We want to help you avoid the following:

  • Risk to your life

All the above works whether you are selling up, renting out or staying put, a property owner, private landlord or business owner.

Did you know that UPVC is basically soft white plastic, with a coating on the outside.

If dirt is left to sit on the UPVC for a long period it can destroy the coating, attacking the soft white plastic which could permanently damage your installation.

Powells offers a fully insured service to both home and business users alike. We are happy to provide risk assessments and written quotations to all our customers. Let our professional, friendly, and efficient cleaning team restore your premises to their former glory.

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ's

We can’t anticipate all the questions you might have, so we went with some of the most common things we are asked.

What is a fascia board?

A fascia is a long board that is fixed just below the lower roof where it meets the outer wall of your home or office building. It’s where the guttering is usually attached and is sometimes called the ‘roofline’. Modern ones are made from uPVC, but older ones are mainly made from wood which is then painted.

What are soffits?

The soffits are often confused as part of the fascia boards; however, the soffits fit horizontally underneath at right angles and joins up with the wall of your property. You will often see narrow slats (modern ones) or holes and possibly some kind of vent plates (older ones) in the soffit boards to allow ventilation, this prevents condensation building up and causing damage to the underlying structure.

How much will it cost?

This basically comes down to how many of them there are to do. To get an accurate idea we need to give you a quote.

Is there a best way to clean them?

We use a pure water system which is a chemical free way to clean fascia’s and soffits. This way we can avoid any damage and the use of chemicals or detergents, this system allows us to easily clean away dirt and grime to leave so you get great results.

Can I use a pressure washer to clean them myself?

While it is up to you how you clean your own property, we wouldn’t recommend this method as it can easily damage them and potentially cause damage to other areas of your house, such as rendering, the mortar in between your bricks, your guttering and potentially your windows.

A pressure washer works best when used at close proximity to the surface you want to clean. Fascia’s and soffits are mostly higher up and harder to reach making it difficult to virtually impossible without extra equipment to clean them effectively and safely.

How do you remove any mould and mildew?

While you can wipe down reachable areas to the exterior of your property with various cleaning agents, it may not be safe to do so at height, which is where our pole fed pure water system really comes in to its own, combined with our cleaning expertise we can make quick work when removing mould and mildew.

What access is needed to clean them?

We prefer to clean them from the ground making things quicker and easier. While our equipment allows us to reach up the sides of your property, it truly helps if we can get all the way around it. We will always perform an assessment prior to cleaning to establish the best and safest way to clean your fascia’s and soffits.

How do I prevent mould and mildew returning?

One of the best ways to achieve this is regular cleaning, it helps prevent the growth of mould, mildew, algae, and lichen by keeping the surfaces clean, stopping any build-up that could cause future damage.

Do you use different methods when cleaning different coloured fascia and soffits?

Our pure water cleaning system works on any colour to get them nice and clean, restoring your curb appeal. We know that when it comes to white finishes, staining can happen over time, (the composition of the PVC can play a part in this) however, keeping them clean can reduce the severity prolonging the life and look of your fascia’s and soffits.

How often should I have them cleaned?

To keep them well maintained we recommend the following:

  • Ideally every six months.
  • Every two years as a minimum.
